Who Wants To Be
A Poodle (I Don’t)

“ As a child I had never liked poodles – with their bizarre pom-pom hairdos, didn’t they know they looked ridiculous? But remembering this made me feel bad because what if they did know they looked ridiculous but couldn’t do anything about it?

So I decided to write a story about a poodle* who doesn’t really want to live a poodle sort of life, a story about longing to feel like the real you – the person you know you are inside, but who nobody else can see. And that’s what Trixie’s all about.”

* poodle n an intelligent breed of dog with a thick curly coat that is clipped and snipped in a most distinctive way.

The word poodle comes from “puddle” from the German pudel, from pudelhund meaning “splashing dog” – as poodles were originally trained to hunt waterbirds.
